What Have You Got Planned Tonight, Diana by Merle Haggard

I'm not ashamed to admit that this one brought a tear to my eye when I heard it the other morning on my Ipod.

I'm just back from seeing my favorite band, Fountains of Wayne, playing at the Rams Head Tavern. Great show. These guys are very unassuming geniuses. Great melodies, great lyrics. Love 'em if you couldn't tell. They've got so many great songs that I had a tough time picking one today, but here's one they didn't play. Just one of the sweetest songs ever!

I'll Go To My Grave Loving You by the Statler Brothers

When I was a junior in high school, Ricky Alcorn and I were darn close to best friends. This was pretty strange because he was WAY, WAY cooler than I was. We had known each other since 5th grade and were friendly during all that time, but in 11th grade we had almost all of our classes together and for some reason, it all clicked. Anyway, Ricky was very cool but the unusual thing was, HE LIKED COUNTRY MUSIC. And he was unapologetic about it. He actually made fun of me for not liking it. One of his albums at the time was the Statler Brothers Greatest Hits, which as it turns out was damn good. Especially this song, which is beautiful. Alas, we lost touch over that summer and didn't have any classes together senior year, so we drifted apart. But he was (and probably still is) a great guy.

The Things We Say by the Beagles
This is a song from one of the power pop collections that I have procured from

Not Lame Records. But in attempting to find some information, this is all I could come up with. The only reference to a group name the Beagles is a mid 60's animated dog group that appeared on CBS for a short time. Their musical style fits the power pop bill, so maybe its them. But then again maybe not.

The story I heard was that the title came from a menu with a chicken and eggs dish with that name.
